Striping on First Baptist Lane

Posted by Crescent at Cherry Lane Board on December 5, 2011 at 1:25 PM

After discussions with the Board, the City has agreed to stripe First Baptist Lane.  In the next month or so, a yellow stripe will be painted off-center on First Baptist Lane.  This will clearly mark the two traffic lanes and one parking lane in the outbound direction.  Vehicles parking on First Baptist Lane on the inbound side will be parked in a travel lane and will subject to ticketing and towing.

The Board continues to work with the City on parking issues on Hardcastle Street, Breckenridge Street, and Rockcastle Street.  We hope to provide an update in the near future.

Why are all these parking restrictions being enforced? Are community members complaining or is the board just taking it upon themselves to decide what's best without asking for feedback? I live on Breckenridge and have spoken with neighbors, none of whom had any issues with parking on both sides of the street.

Sandra,

The Board received a number of complaints from residents about vehicles parking in such a manner as to make it difficult to drive down the streets in the community and multiple near accidents where parked vehicles created visual impairments and narrowed the roads to one lane for two-way traffic. The Board discussed the concerns with the developer who agreed that cars were being parked in places where it was never intended they be parked and that the streets were not wide enough to support. In addition, numerous residents expressed concern about speeding on First Baptist Lane (which the striping is also intended to address).

Parking and speeding concerns were discussed at the December 2010, April 2011, and July 2011 board meetings. The discussions are reflected in the minutes posted for each of those meetings on the website. The issues were also discussed at the October 2011 annual meeting and at the November 2011 board meeting, the minutes of which will be posted to the website after they are approved by the Board.

An update on parking was provided in a letter mailed to residents earlier this month.

The update is that signs have already been posted regarding parking or lack thereof. "Thanks" board of directors for the timely updates.
